BISA AIMS TO ASSIST THE GOVERNMENT OF INDONESIA TRANSFORM THE LIVES OF WOMEN, ADOLESCENT GIRLS AND YOUNG CHILDREN

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The Better Investment for Stunting Alleviation (BISA) programme is $10m partnership between The Power of Nutrition, the Asian Philanthropic Circle, the Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade in Australia,  Save the Children and Nutrition International in Indonesia. BISA aims to assist the Government of Indonesia transform the lives of women, adolescent girls and young children, enabling them to access better nutrition and helping children reach their full potential. The programme will support the Provincial governments of West Java and East Nusu Tenggara Timur (NTT) to:

  1. Improve nutrition and WASH knowledge and practices at the community and household level through social and behaviour change communication.
  2. Enhance government capacity at the district level by providing technical assistance and delivering targeted training for health workers and decision-makers to improve the quality and coverage of nutrition services
  3. Strengthen co-ordination across the government ministries responsible for delivering nutrition services at the provincial level and improving planning and budgeting for nutrition through sensitization, training and capacity building.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

BISA will enable 3.3 million people, including over 700,000 women, almost 490,000 children under two, and 1.45 million adolescent girls, to access high impact nutrition services. BISA will also contribute to an additional 4,800 lives saved, 6,300 cases of stunting averted, and over 161,000 cases of anaemia averted.

PROGRAMME ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE

The newly active BISA programme will begin reporting results in the second half of 2021.
