SAFEGUARDING VULNERABLE WOMEN AND CHILDREN AGAINST MALNUTRITION IN ETHIOPIA – proposed interventions

By disrupting food supply and existing services, COVID-19 threatens to create an additional 68,935 cases of severe acute malnutrition in children under 5 (Unicef data). To prevent this, action is critical. The Power of Nutrition will work with Unicef Ethiopia to deliver 15,395 therapeutic food sachets, fortified milk, and rehydration salts to children with severe malnutrition, as well as remotely training health workers and adapt campaigns on optimal feeding practice, reaching at least 150,000 families. To make this a reality, $800,000 is required for therapeutic food and around $100,000 is required for training and community messaging.
