Amplify social protection strategies to safeguard the economic and food security of the most nutritionally vulnerable groups

SOCIAL PROTECTION PROGRAMMING IN LIBERIA – proposed interventions

Liberians know the danger of contagious disease and are living with the impact of the 2014 Ebola outbreak. Over 60% of households are already, or vulnerable to becoming, food insecure (Unicef data). Shocks related to COVID-19 acutely threaten to leave parents without the ability to feed their children. Our proposed response in Margibi county sees us working with Unicef Liberia to provide monthly cash transfers directly to mothers enabling them to purchase nutritious food for their families – costing approximately $720,000. This will benefit an estimated 10,000 individuals – safeguarding the most vulnerable from the threat of increased malnutrition.
