Why does the world still tolerate stunting? Despite costing the global economy billions of dollars every year, it is not being addressed and the statistics are troubling. The arrival of COVID-19 is only exacerbating undernutrition levels, particularly in Africa.
To explore the issue and discuss the huge gaps in global attention and investment, The Power of Nutrition hosted a webinar with an audience of over 100 sector leaders and practitioners, including representatives from the private and public sector.
We were joined by guest speaker Roger Thurow – journalist, author and senior fellow on global food and agriculture at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs – whose writing on famine in Africa has awarded him nominations for the Pulitzer Prize in International Reporting and Action Against Hunger’s Humanitarian Award.
Roger shared his experience in Ethiopia and the dramatic story of one boy, Hagirso.
The Power of Nutrition’s CEO, Martin Short, and Associate Director for Investments, Jeffrey Misomali, discussed investing in health systems and nutrition to build resilient societies – and why during a pandemic this is more important now than ever.
